2nd Annual Ukulele Christmas Sing-A-Long

Voice teachers Maria Gracielle Constantine and Lindsay McGinnis with guitar/ukulele teacher Mark Marston led a 4-meeting online Ukulele Sing-A-Long course for the second time, creating what is sure to continue as a well-loved annual tradition! Audrey, Carson, and Ella who had participated in similar courses before, eagerly learned to accompany themselves with the ukulele and sing a new group of holiday songs. Having two voice teachers this time, students were able to learn a variety of breathing exercises, vocal warmups and techniques, and worked on some new concepts such as singing in other languages and diction. On the ukulele, they reviewed formerly learned songs and strumming patterns, while learning unfamiliar chords, music theory, and some history behind the pieces. Besides strumming, students learned how to finger-pick accompaniments (new for most of them) and how to read melodies using uke tablature. The music was a mix of traditional carols and popular music.

Students learned the following pieces: O Christmas Tree, I Saw Three Ships, Silent Night, Feliz Navidad, Last Christmas, Mele Kalikimaka, Up On The Housetop, Silver Bells, Jolly Old Saint Nicholas, Jingle Bells. We can always tell when students have had a good time because of what they share: “It was a fun way to use my ukulele!” and “My daughter loves singing the holiday songs she learned in class and playing the ukulele for her family and friends!” and “Playing the ukulele and singing at the same time is really relaxing because you made it easy to learn how to do it well.” We so enjoyed spending time with you in this course and hope you had a great holiday!

Thanks for continuing the series Mark and Lindsay and let’s give a special shout out to Maria who added to the vocal training this year!
