All Instrument Serenade

On the 6th of November, I had the pleasure of attending a music recital featuring students and faculty from the Center for Young Musicians. The recital was an All Instrument Serenade and was hosted in the Falk Auditorium at Winchester Thurston School in Shadyside.

Violin faculty, Mr. Chris Sforza, led the event. Dispersed throughout the program, Mr. Chris played six minuets (all written by female composers) which he himself had arranged for two violins. Together, violin teachers Leah Givelber and Mr. Chris brought these six minuets to life.

The teachers were not the only ones to perform a minuet at this recital. Sylvia (9) played a minuet by Bach on violin. It was a beautiful moment on stage where Sylvia’s own mother played violin along with her. Shortly after we heard Sylvia’s brother, Charlie (9) play music from the Suzuki guitar repertoire, leading us into the guitarist portion of the recital.

Lucas (6), also played music from the Suzuki guitar repertoire. It was his first performance in front of a crowd in almost two years! We also saw Krish (7) perform on the guitar for the very first time! As his teacher, it was a proud moment for me to see his hard work in the beginning stages of the guitar culminating in this experience. Ayan (11), who has entered his seventh year of guitar studies with me, is now a seasoned veteran when it comes to performing. Interestingly enough, Krish is playing on the very same guitar that Ayan used to play when he was younger. This guitar has been passed down from student to student in this studio, and on this day, two of those students’ paths converged.

The recital was concluded by Alexa (14) performing an amazing interpretation of Concerto in a minor by JB Accolay. Her strong technique, mature musiciality, and command of the violin, was a memorable way to close the concert.

Thank you to all the families, friends, teachers, and faculty who supported these young musicians in their musical adventure. See you at the next one! Link here to Erich’s Faculty Page.
