Craft Your Music Highlight Roll Up
Ms. Grace’s piano students received awards recognizing their unique musical contributions: Lucille and Meriwether, guided by Ms. Victoria through the Young Artist and Music Ambassador Program, gave presentations relating to music, memory, and wellness at Masonic Village in Sewickley. The students earned certificates for their interactive piano presentations created for seniors to reflect on the natural world and facilitate memory retrieval.

Students of Mr. Mark and Ms. Grace performed holiday music at Sewickley Light – Up Night then stepped into the village to enjoy gift shopping, live performances, and tasty treats from participating vendors and food trucks. Women Who Rock was with us that night spreading the word about women artists and work being accomplished at Magee-Womens Research Institute and Foundation. Thanks to all who came out to share the good cheer!

Guitar players performed for congregants at the Perry Highway Lutheran Church supper delineating the coming of Lent. CYM’s heartfelt thanks to Mr. Mark and his students for making this evening especially meaningful for the people of PHLC.
Carson performed a solo recital playing seven pieces from Suzuki Guitar Book 4 and an encore from Book 5. Carson learned and polished this literature for almost two years before presenting the concert at CYM Sewickley. Congratulations to Carson and his parents for their dedication – and to Mr. Mark for his exemplary mentorship!
Dr. Young received $160k grant to renovate Jazz Workshop’s 3-story building in Wilkinsburg. The funds will be used to prepare music education classrooms, performances and a host of other functions. Check out the very popular concert series, “Jazz on the Steps” each Wednesday in June and July (except July 3rd) from 5:30-7 pm at the Carnegie Library, 7101 Hamilton Avenue, in the auditorium. The performance is free and open to the public!

CYM donated two pianos to Point Park University: one now sits in the lobby of the School of Business and one is located in the creative space of the student run record label “Pioneer Records”.
Watch for announcements as CYM and Free the Music continue their joint mission to relocate restored pianos to local educational and community organizations. Call the school if you know of an additional location where instruments can be regularly played and appreciated as therapeutic and creative tools.
Early Childhood Music and Movement egg shakers, xylophones, rhythm sticks, tambourines, and gathering and hand drums were dedicated to the music students, teachers, and caregivers at Hope Academy, East Liberty. Enjoy!
