Hey! Where Did CYM Go?

What a great time we have had at CYM’s original music lesson site, the mid-century residential house and open backyard at 120 Lake Drive! Following the natural progression from meeting families for early childhood music and movement, to expanding student training to multiple in person locations and an online footprint, CYM continues to create partnerships with families and in communities where a variety of activities are led and good causes are made.

The new locations where you can take music lessons with CYM are quiet and spacious. They are conveniently located with lots of parking and as always, great learning is happening there with amazing teachers! These community partners are excited to welcome CYM teachers and families into their “houses”. CYM, soon into its third decade, provides connectivity between those seeking excellent music instruction and the neighborhood locations where instructors set up studios – 12 and counting!

This month, that little house constructed by Mr. Marty McKinney, life member of the Wexford Volunteer Fire Department in Pine Township, will be sold to a family owned business who we expect to come to love the place as much as we have. We can’t wait to see the improvements planned for the building after the new owners shine it up and move in, and we look forward to the great service they will bring.

At 120 Lake Drive we played Allegro and Bach Double, Siciliana and La Cinquantaine, Au Clair de la Luna and so, so many Minuets! Under the backyard’s massive pin oak, there were games of tag and frisbee, and serious talks with mom about practicing more regularly. Lullabies were sung and balloons hung on the fence rails to mark graduation recitals. All kinds of people connected, before and after lessons, and during COVID – making music, making friends.

From the window your teacher waved you inside to the lesson room, where you brought out questions about that tricky fingering. You listened to their earnest explanation about technique, to their incredible musicality, and to their awful music jokes. You (and your siblings) continuously advanced because of their encouragement and beyond your own expectations. You got pieces ready for Youth Orchestra and All State and college. You learned your grandpa’s favorite collegiate fight song for his birthday.

So we say a final “Thank You” to the sweet spot that provided a musical home to thousands of people taking many more thousands of lessons since 1994. Where did we go? CYM is anywhere your family can easily meet to learn. CYM is where your teachers want to work, as they choose locations themselves and eagerly await, ready to help you become a capable person and musician. See you there!
