Winter DVD Project

The introduction screen of the Holiday DVD

Many people are restricted from welcoming performers into their spheres this season, yet CYM students broke through the winter isolation and made a difference. We have many ways to help students reach out to others to make the world a better place through musical community service (with the Good Citizen and Young Artist Certificate Programs), and, in keeping with the activity initiated during the 2020 “lockdown”, student participation was again requested to create a recording, specifically for seniors.

We heard from fourteen generous students who videotaped themselves playing at various levels of ability. The polished pieces created the CYM Holiday DVD, which our staff has delivered to numerous elder-care and assisted living facilities. The music was eagerly received and residents across the Pittsburgh area will enjoy student talent, repeatedly, during the winter months – you will be happy to know!

We want to offer a heartfelt thank you to every student (and parent and teacher) who took time out to record and share their favorite pieces; in this act you put your lessons to good use and we are really proud of you for taking up the opportunity! If you missed participating in this project and would like information about how your music school helps young people joyfully punctuate any day by playing for others, write to support@craftyourmusic.com to schedule a conversation with CYM co-founder, Victoria McGinnis. Performance Teams are being assembled and we are sure your kids would love to be involved!
