Listen Here to Constantine’s New Material
“Shadows In My Room” is a project I have been working on for the last couple of years. I began writing the songs for this Extended Play in 2021 after my first Extended Play release, “Walk With Me”. This recording process journey was intense and intricate. After I wrote the songs, I met with my producer, Jacob Zang, a Music Technology Graduate from Duquesne University. We talked about our visions for the project and for each individual song. After this stage, Jake proceeded to record instrumental tracks for each song! We collaborated with five other musicians to do this. After the tracks were completed, it was time for me to come in and record vocal tracks. As one hears when listening to the songs, there is a lot more than one voice singing the melody. I spent hours recording hums, “oo’s,” “ah’s,” and little backing harmonies. Every piece of the harmony took at least fifteen minutes to record, and there are hundreds! All vocals were recorded in about six, four-six hour sessions. After the vocal tracks were completed, Jake spent hours going through every track, mixing and mastering the EP. After a fun photoshoot, the EP was finally ready! This project means so much to me and the process of creating it was incredible. Writing poems and lyrics is something I am passionate about and to see it released into the world fills my heart with joy. Here is a snippet about each song:
Different Lands: I wrote Different Lands last year in Key West, Florida on a ukulele. I remember sitting down and writing it in about an hour. The chord progression is beautiful and the intimate harmonies take you to a different land! The lyrics take you through a story about a sweet, but complicated relationship and portrays images of blue skies and water.
Is This As Clear As It Gets?: I wrote this song on the piano during the fall of 2022. My favorite part of this song is the instrumental track. The guitar and piano with the booming percussion is very catchy and compliments the vocals perfectly! The vocals have a sense of pain when being sung and there is weight to every word.
Lost Yourself: Lost Yourself was written in the same year on the guitar. This upbeat, funky song features the wonderful jazz musicians I collaborated with. The vocals are sassy and the harmonies add a lot of grit, making the song catchy and comforting.
Shadows In Your Room: I wrote this song also in the fall of 2022. The EP is titled after this song because it is my favorite song on the track and closed out the project in a rounded way. The song talks about shadows, which is a metaphor for insecurity and hardship. This song has beautiful, intimate lyrics. The lyrics are written in a way where one is looking over themselves as a child, trying to be a guardian angel.
