Mr. Mark’s Outdoor Guitar Play-In

Play-Ins provide a chance to get together, have fun, and play shared repertoire. The best way to prepare is to make sure you have as many of your Suzuki pieces polished as possible. Be ready to call out your favorites – we will take requests! Students need to bring their guitar, a seat, and footrest. Students who happen to have a Shearer guitar strap may want to bring it even if they don’t usually use it – it’s easier to stand and play outside than set up the seat and footrest.

Anyone who is coming just to listen can bring a lawn chair. Please be sure to use the link to let us know you want to be there and so that we can prepare the space for everyone. I am very excited to have a group of guitar students play together again, even if it might be just a few students. When I started my first “in-person” lessons again, I was surprised how emotional it was to hear a student play their guitar in the same room. I think it will be like that again when we first play together again.

And for those students who are interested in learning the guitar, it is a very versatile instrument, and can be used for classical, folk, jazz, and pop music. It also fits very well for children’s songs, and many children seem naturally attracted to the tone. It’s also an instrument that can be easily carried and played almost anywhere (like in CYM’s parking lot!), and can be played solo or to accompany singing or other instruments.

Lastly, make sure to use the link here to RSVP for the Guitar Play-In before 5:00pm this Friday. We will be setting up based on how many total people will be attending and hope to see you there!
