Joined CYM in 2024

Ruan is an active Violin and Viola teacher, having a bachelor’s degree in music education attained in Brazil, and registered Suzuki Violin training through Books 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8, excluding complementary courses in violin pedagogy and group teaching. Ruan has been teaching for the last 5 years in various modalities, such as individual in-person and online lessons, group lessons for groups of 2 students at a time and up to 8 in Brazilian social projects, chamber music coaching for advanced students and youth orchestra coaching. Ruan also teaches beginner Piano and Cello, and he combines teaching methods gathered during his pedagogical training, utilizing the Suzuki repertoire and simple songs for beginners to learn proper posture and sound production but focusing heavily on note reading and separate technique exercises from early on. Ruan also starts incorporating more traditional repertoire after the initial phase.

When he was an undergraduate and interned in the public school system, Ruan successfully taught general music classes to students in kindergarten, preschool, middle school, and high school. After graduation, Ruan returned to his hometown to assume a position of individual and group violin teacher, youth orchestra section coach and symphony orchestra member. After moving to the United States, Ruan has worked with violin and viola teaching in schools in Pittsburgh, as well as has performed with many regional professional orchestras in the Pennsylvania/Ohio region, such as the Wheeling, Youngstown, and Butler symphony orchestras. Ruan was a full scholarship recipient at both the Bowdoin International Music Festival and the Brevard Music Center, where he was also a semi-finalist of the Brevard Music Center Concerto Competition. This season he will continue his graduate education at Southern Methodist University for a Master’s degree in Violin Performance.

In Ruan’s experience, music can be a great tool for students to increase their wellness, by providing them with a continuous sense of challenge/rewards and artistic satisfaction in their creations and sharing their art with others. Whenever he can, Ruan is involved in performing for the ill as volunteer work in local hospitals, where he finds a way to share his music as a tool for uplifting his peers. Ruan is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese (his native language),and an avid language learner. He is currently perfecting himself in German to pursue fluency in a fourth language.
