#WomanCrushWednesday 9/29
It’s time for #WomanCrushWednesday! Today’s recipient has never let the cold bother her, as she is most known for penning the lyrics to the worldwide smash hit song, “Let It Go“ from Disney’s Frozen. Our #womancrushwednesday is none other than Kristen Anderson-Lopez!
Ms. Anderson-Lopez was raised in the small suburb of Croton-on-Hudson in New York City. At the age of four, she went to a U.S. Bicentennial musical tribute and fell in love with the theater. She would go on to graduate from Williams College in western Massachusetts, where she double-majored in drama and psychology. Anderson-Lopez would hold a handful of temporary jobs over the next several years, as she continued to work towards her dream job of becoming a Broadway performer. It wasn’t until 1999, when she joined the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, that she would find her two true loves: becoming a lyricist and her future husband Robert Lopez. Anderson-Lopez’s first collaborations with her husband involved writing several songs together for children’s televisions shows, such as Wonder Pets on Nick Jr and Bear in the Big Blue House on the Disney Channel. In 2006, they would also write lyrics for the Walt Disney World production of Finding Nemo – The Musical. Later in 2011, the pair would team up alongside Henry Jackman to write and produce the music for the film Winnie the Pooh, and Ms. Anderson-Lopez would also provide the voice of Kanga in the film. Their work earned them a nomination for an Annie Award for Best Music in a Feature Production.
Their most well-known work, Frozen, would debut in 2013 and both Robert and Kristen Anderson-Lopez would win an Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 86th Academy Awards and two Grammy Awards at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. They would also go on to write music for the sequel, Frozen II, as well as the music for the Disney Pixar film Coco. Their song, “Remember Me“, would win an Annie Award for Music in a Feature Production, as well as an Academy Award for Best Original Song. Recently, their work for the Disney/Marvel mini-series WandaVision has received critical acclaim.
