Perform Monthly, Music Becomes You
It feels good to find a new song, figure out how it goes, and play it over and over until it’s learned by heart. It is a truly satisfying process. In the time between physically hashing out tricky parts to thoroughly memorizing a whole piece, something cool happens. Simply put, the music becomes an inseparable part of you.
Taking lessons on any musical instrument, makes you a kind of athlete. Time spent in physical practice is required to develop reliable and accurate muscle memory. So what occurs when you take a well learned piece onto the “field” of a welcoming audience?
In a recital, your nerves and skills are tested, your best moves showcased. You get to send the piece out for another to hear and discover, then enjoy lots of positive feedback, like applause, smiling, and words of praise. That’s what makes music so amazing: take it to heart and it goes anywhere you go, share it and your good effort and energy come straight back, amplified.
It does not matter whether you have studied an instrument for years, or have not. Those who take piano, violin, or guitar lessons at any learning stage, need to perform often in order to become better at it. The journey of becoming a person who easily, even eagerly, performs in front of others takes time and repetition.
The beauty of our music education program is that you, a student with little or a lot of experience, can bring music that has been mastered (any instrument, any genre) to each monthly concert. You share it for the benefit of others and strengthen your abilities, never letting it “go to waste”.
CYM celebrates the musical efforts of young people who break from personal routines to get moving and connected. Students gear up to perform in new settings, give audiences an emotional lift, and create good news. Call 724.935.0505 or visit the Craft Your Music Events Calendar for more information.
