Congratulations to Honors Recital Students!
CYM piano students sparkled at two recent Honors Recitals! Honors Recitals give dedicated students an opportunity to push themselves to new levels of polish and musicianship, and the eight students who performed on October 9th rose to the challenge. Audience members were delighted with pieces such as Prelude No. 1 by Gershwin, Ice Skaters by Faber, Sonata Op. 49 No. 2 by Beethoven, Glacier Majesty by Alexander, and Prelude in E minor by Chopin.
One of the challenges set to students performing on Honors Recitals is to perform multiple pieces all from memory. As performer Siena put it, “For the honors recital, I had to prepare two pieces so this will be my longest performance time (other than book recital). I prepared similarly in that I practiced every day, but I added playing for a classmate for two lessons to get used to playing for new people”.
Honors Recitals are also an opportunity to practice performance poise and preparation, Kenzie remarks on her strategy to stay calm in performance situations – “Don’t worry about the audience, just focus on yourself. It’s okay to make a mistake. And if you do, just keep on going.”
Big congratulations to Sami, Yazan, Clara, Kenzie, Siddharth, Gitanjali, Ethan, and Siena for all your hard work!
